Accepting Mistakes and Learning from Them

One of the very common fears of people is the fear of making mistakes.

We live in a world where we are expected to do things right - always right. People think that making thinks perfectly is the secret to achieving success.

Have you been told by your father not to make mistakes in order to make your life better? Or have you been scolded by your grade school teacher because you failed in his class?

Perhaps you’ve experienced something like this, that’s why you’re having a difficult time to go on in life.

Having a life that is terrified by mistake is not a new thing at all. Almost everyone deals with it. Even me.

When I was still in school, I was afraid to fail. I didn’t want to go home with my classcard having a failed grade. I was afraid that I might disappoint my parents. Aside from that, I was afraid to ruin my life. I thought that having a failure remark will affect my future – my chance to getting great job opportunities, the possibility to achieving the salary I want, etc. I thought of that because that’s how I’ve been brought up.

The good thing is I was successful in achieving that. In my entire school life, I’ve never had any failure remarks. My school grades, if not very good, at least they were all fine. The bad news is I thought after graduating from college, my life would become better – that I’ll quickly get a position with an awesome monthly salary. But that didn’t happen. After graduation, I had a hard time finding a great job. And then I realized that when you're already out there, in the real world, things are different. Even if you have good grades, it’s still not enough to get what you want.

And because I was too afraid then to become unemployed and be embarrassed for not having a job, I just searched for anything to, at least, provide something for my family. So instead of landing to a great career, I got a job that is far from what I’ve prayed for. I stayed there for the sake of having something to provide for my family. But when I saw that there's no potential of growing, I decided to quit and find another job. It was risky for me, because I have a family to support. But I told myself that if I’m going to stay for a few months more, I might get stuck there forever.

Only when I quit that I realized that being perfect is not the secret to achieving success. It doesn’t matter how well you were in school or how good you are in fixing things. If you’re lacking knowledge and determination, you’ll never get to the place you’re yearning.

When I get out of my comfort zone, I saw a lot of opportunities. I never thought that there are so many great opportunities out there. I’ve never even thought that there’s a world and opportunities here, online. Maybe if I haven’t left my first job, I won’t be here, writing for you and doing the things I love.

Well, I’m not saying that you should quit your job now and immediately get out there. Of course, it requires thinking – a lot of hard thinking. It’s important that you also think about your actions and their consequences before making a certain decision.

My point is when you're decided, you shouldn’t be afraid to take risk and see the possibilities because it’s the way to making your dreams happen. Don’t worry about failing. Yes, you may fail as you go along your journey, but that’s not a reason for you to stop. After all, taking risks and getting failed are what make you stronger and wiser. If you’ll stay in your comfort zone, you’ll never be able to spread your wings and fly.

In life, it is very important to also know what you really want and what really makes you happy. It’s not enough to settle for anything just because you are afraid to have nothing. Much more will be gone if you will not get out there and take your chances. Remember that successful people have gone through a lot of difficulties and failures before they’ve become who they are now. Yes, they were also afraid, but they didn’t allow their fears to get in their way.

If you’re worried to go on because of what other people might think, then throw away your worries. You’re not living on this planet to please others. Yes, they might get disappointed if you fail, but who cares, anyway? What’s more important is you learn and become happier.

So what are you waiting for?

Set your sail and travel to your destination!
