How to Mend a Broken Heart

Mending a broken heart is never easy, especially if you wanted the relationship to last. It's painful - it's like being underwater and having a hard time to breathe. But getting your heart broken should not hold you back from living happily and loving deeply once more. Remember that the pain from our past experience and relationships teaches us a lot of things, making us better and stronger than before.

But how do we get past the excruciating pain? Here are some tips that I've gathered from experts and people who have been there on how they've picked up the broken pieces to move on and live a happy life again.

Step 1. Feel the pain, don't skip it.

This is probably the most difficult part for a person with a broken heart. Definitely, no one would want to stand on a pit of fire because you know it will only hurt you more. But here's the painful truth: That's exactly what you have to do to get over and move on. Denying what have happened or not accepting it will just make the matter worse.

Here's what you should do: Cry. And let all those feelings out of your system. If you want to shout, do so. The most important thing is you feel the pain and let it comes out. If you'll do it right, whatever intense pain you may be feeling right now will eventually be gone and lost forever.

Step 2. Say goodbye to end the relationship for good.

This doesn't necessarily have to be done by meeting with the person face to face. You can do this by simply grabbing a picture of him and telling to that object that represents him something like this: "I'm happy even without you, and I'm now ready to move on." Remember that you should only say positive things to make the recovery much easier and better.

Step 3. Go out with your friends.

Going out and meeting with friends and new people is one of the fastest ways to recover from breakup. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself and cursing that person who've caused you pain, why not mingle with others and find the happiness you deserve? Though it may be difficult in the beginning, you'll eventually realize the importance of reaching out to your friends and families, especially in times like this. It's also a good thing to know that there are people who care and willing to listen about how you really feel.

Step 4. Do something worthwhile.

Even though you've been in a tough situation, you still deserve to be happy. Don't allow yourself to stay in that dark cocoon of yours and just let the situation eats you up. There are more things in life to be happy and celebrate about. Go out and do the things that you normally do. Better if you'll try the things you've never done before. It will make you feel much better. Never tried hiking? Do it. Never tried rappelling? Do it. Never been in the other side of the town? Go and travel there.

Have fun and make the most out of your life. But as much as possible, avoid alcohol, bars, junk foods - anything that will make your situation only worse. Remember, you're already grown up. And you already know what's right and wrong.

Step 5. Forgive and learn.

Recognize this as an opportunity to learn and have a better life. Remember that everything that happens to us has a purpose. What you need to do is discover it and apply it to your life. Take time to find out if there are certain issues in your life or yourself that need attention or improvement. Why do think the breakup happened in the first place? Was it because of you or him? Maybe you need to be more responsible or make a little change about your attitude. Take this time to reflect and know what you really need and want.

And don't forget to forgive the person, no matter how much he or she have caused you pain. I know, forgiveness is the most difficult task, but it is also the most important one. However, there's no rush when it comes to this. I know that you can never force yourself to forgive someone when you're not ready yet. With the right heart and attitude, everything will be in good place and you will be happy, again.

When No One Seems To Be There

Do you find yourself in situation like these? Everytime you enter the office, people just stop talking and stare at you ‘til you reach your table as if there’s something wrong with you. Or your special someone starts forgetting your special days as if he/she no longer cares for you. Or the sacrifices you’re making for your family is being unnoticed.

There are moments in life that we feel no one cares about us – that even those who are very close to us have turned their back on us. There are countless of reasons why people feel this and having this kind of feeling is natural. I think almost everybody deals with this situation at times.

I know this because I’ve already been there several times. And I know how much that hurts. So if you’re feeling that way now, I want you to know that I understand your situation. I’m writing this because I want to help you cope up with your depression.
It’s very difficult for people to find themselves in a situation where it seems no one is there for them or no one likes them. Aside from the feeling of loneliness, you will even suffer from confusion. What’s wrong with me? Why no one wants to listen to me? Why after the good things I’ve done, they just ignore me? These are only some of the questions people ask when their sad and feeling alone.

But of course, no one would want to be in that miserable condition forever. You would definitely want to get out of that prison of loneliness. But how when the only thing you feel like doing is cry? You’re too upset and mad for getting abandoned when you need someone the most or being treated like that when you know that you’re doing nothing wrong.

Okay, here’s a big revelation.

Do you know why you’re feeling that way – that you feel unloved, unwanted, and unnoticed? Usually, it’s only because of the way you think.

Most people tend to become so negative and imagine things irrationally, which leads to sending off weird vibes and causing other people to react negatively or feel a little off.
The solution is to avoid thinking about things negatively. Start living with a positive mind. Do not become too much focused on what others think about you. Care for yourself first because it’s the most important of all. When you care about yourself, other people will do the same.

And do not worry if someone or some people dislike you. After all, you can never please everyone. In this imperfect world, there will always be people who would want to bring you down and make you miserable, but do not let them conquer you. Show to them that you’re not a person that can easily be destroyed.

Besides, just because someone hates you doesn’t mean no one cares for you anymore. Of course, there is. There’s always is.

And always believe that being there is not permanent. You may be feeling a little worse now, but if you do something and do your job well, you will eventually get better.

Accepting Mistakes and Learning from Them

One of the very common fears of people is the fear of making mistakes.

We live in a world where we are expected to do things right - always right. People think that making thinks perfectly is the secret to achieving success.

Have you been told by your father not to make mistakes in order to make your life better? Or have you been scolded by your grade school teacher because you failed in his class?

Perhaps you’ve experienced something like this, that’s why you’re having a difficult time to go on in life.

Having a life that is terrified by mistake is not a new thing at all. Almost everyone deals with it. Even me.

When I was still in school, I was afraid to fail. I didn’t want to go home with my classcard having a failed grade. I was afraid that I might disappoint my parents. Aside from that, I was afraid to ruin my life. I thought that having a failure remark will affect my future – my chance to getting great job opportunities, the possibility to achieving the salary I want, etc. I thought of that because that’s how I’ve been brought up.

The good thing is I was successful in achieving that. In my entire school life, I’ve never had any failure remarks. My school grades, if not very good, at least they were all fine. The bad news is I thought after graduating from college, my life would become better – that I’ll quickly get a position with an awesome monthly salary. But that didn’t happen. After graduation, I had a hard time finding a great job. And then I realized that when you're already out there, in the real world, things are different. Even if you have good grades, it’s still not enough to get what you want.

And because I was too afraid then to become unemployed and be embarrassed for not having a job, I just searched for anything to, at least, provide something for my family. So instead of landing to a great career, I got a job that is far from what I’ve prayed for. I stayed there for the sake of having something to provide for my family. But when I saw that there's no potential of growing, I decided to quit and find another job. It was risky for me, because I have a family to support. But I told myself that if I’m going to stay for a few months more, I might get stuck there forever.

Only when I quit that I realized that being perfect is not the secret to achieving success. It doesn’t matter how well you were in school or how good you are in fixing things. If you’re lacking knowledge and determination, you’ll never get to the place you’re yearning.

When I get out of my comfort zone, I saw a lot of opportunities. I never thought that there are so many great opportunities out there. I’ve never even thought that there’s a world and opportunities here, online. Maybe if I haven’t left my first job, I won’t be here, writing for you and doing the things I love.

Well, I’m not saying that you should quit your job now and immediately get out there. Of course, it requires thinking – a lot of hard thinking. It’s important that you also think about your actions and their consequences before making a certain decision.

My point is when you're decided, you shouldn’t be afraid to take risk and see the possibilities because it’s the way to making your dreams happen. Don’t worry about failing. Yes, you may fail as you go along your journey, but that’s not a reason for you to stop. After all, taking risks and getting failed are what make you stronger and wiser. If you’ll stay in your comfort zone, you’ll never be able to spread your wings and fly.

In life, it is very important to also know what you really want and what really makes you happy. It’s not enough to settle for anything just because you are afraid to have nothing. Much more will be gone if you will not get out there and take your chances. Remember that successful people have gone through a lot of difficulties and failures before they’ve become who they are now. Yes, they were also afraid, but they didn’t allow their fears to get in their way.

If you’re worried to go on because of what other people might think, then throw away your worries. You’re not living on this planet to please others. Yes, they might get disappointed if you fail, but who cares, anyway? What’s more important is you learn and become happier.

So what are you waiting for?

Set your sail and travel to your destination!

Face Your Fears

All of us have fears. No matter how big or small, it is certain that we are afraid of something.

Fear is always present – in our home, in our workplace, everywhere. It makes us nervous, worried, and frightened. It limits our ability to do something, and it confines us from things we want to have or achieve in life. It holds us back.

How many times have you avoided a great opportunity because you were afraid that you might just fail?
Or how many times have you ignored your feelings because you were afraid that you might just get hurt?
Fear can ruin your future. BUT only if you allow it to...

However, there are times that fear can be good to us. Sometimes, it serves as a protection for us. It functions as a warning signal. And it helps us make better decisions in life. But be reminded that there’s a difference between a “healthy fear” that warns us when something is wrong and an “unhealthy fear” that destroys our lives.

When you’re afraid to take risk, for instance, you’re too scared to talk in a meeting but you know that it’s one way for you to get a promotion, that’s an “unhealthy fear.” It freezes you from doing that something that will make your life better.

If you’re afraid then, it is important that you learn how to overcome it. You do not want to live a life full of regrets because you’re just too afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Below, I’ve listed some effective steps to conquer whatever that holds you back.

Overcome Your Fears

Change your way of thinking. One of the very first effective steps to overcome fear is to change what you think. Usually, it is our thinking that makes us scared. We are too negative that if we do this or that, we might become like this or that – like your boss might embarrass you if he didn’t like your presentation.

But think, is your boss that really kind of person? Has he already embarrassed a lot of employees just because they didn’t impress him? If the answer is “no”, then there’s nothing you should be scared of. If the answer is “yes”, then there’s still no harm in trying. You would never know until you try.

Learn some relaxation techniques. When we’re afraid, we almost feel and react in the same way – our palms sweat, our breath shortens, our body trembles, and our stomach churns. Panic or nervous attack can lead to some serious health issues, so it is important that you learn to calm your body when something around makes you panicked. Relaxing your body is also important in order for you to successfully face whatever it is that fears you.

There are many resources online that you can check if you lack information on this subject. It is better if you also seek for professional help to be properly monitored.

Face your fears. The most important step in overcoming fears is to face them. There’s no way you can beat something if you don’t battle with it face to face. It is not enough that you just avoid it because wherever you go, it will haunt you.

You should face whatever makes you scared. Start by the smallest fear. And note that it’s important to face it gradually. If you’re afraid of heights, you wouldn’t start climbing the highest skyscraper to conquer your fears – that might give you a sudden heart attack. You would, of course, start climbing the lowest floor first and stay there until your fear goes away.

If you do things the right way, you will be able to go further. You will no longer stay in your comfort zone and just accept anything that life throws. You will be able to have control in your life, and finally become the person whom you really wanted to be.

“Don't be afraid of your fears. They're not there to scare you. They're there to let you know that something is worth it.” – C. JoyBell C.

How to Handle Rejection

Just like any other things in life, rejection is inevitable. Life is all about taking risk and chances. And as you go along with it, rejection is always a possibility.

But there’s no reason for you to fear. Yes, rejection can be very painful, especially if that “thing” is really something you want to have and if it’s really something you’ve worked for. But you don’t have to dwell on the negative stuff like worrying or giving up. Rejection hurts, but it also helps.

Did you know that a lot of successful people out there experienced rejection more than you can imagine?

Albert Einstein already faced rejection in the early days of his life. He only had mediocre grades in school, and he got into a lot troubles for rebelling. He was even told by his teacher once that he would never get anywhere in life. But that didn’t stop him to achieve what he wanted. Today, he is known as the world’s greatest genius.

Just like Einstein, Sylvester Stallone faced a lot of failures and rejections before he reached success. He was taunted in school and rejected a lot of times in auditions. His screenplays, including Rocky, were also discarded by many producers. He even came to a point where he had to sell his dog (his best friend) for food and electricity. But he didn’t give up. In fact, his rejections became his light through the dark tunnels of his life.

What about Stephen King? Stephen King is one of the most well-known writers of our time. But before his success, he struggled first during his early career as a writer. He started submitting stories when he was only 16 years old, but nothing got published until he reached the age of 20. Yes, he was rejected a thousand times, but that didn’t stop him to write.

See?

If you ever get rejected or you feel like you can’t go on because you’re afraid of getting rejected, then just think about these people – these people who’ve used rejections to make their dreams come true. It doesn’t matter what kind of rejection you’re facing right now. Whether it’s about that dream job, that dream girl, that dream university, no matter what is it, do not frown or give up.

After all, being rejected doesn’t mean you’re not smart, beautiful, or capable. It’s just that at that time, at that situation, with that person, it didn’t work out. Ever heard of the saying, “There’s always a right time for everything, for everyone.”? That’s true. Maybe, it’s not just your time. But believe that your time will come. And when that time comes, you will be grateful that in times like this, you never gave up. Just be positive. And you will eventually get there.

A Cup of Joe

“Where’s my coffee?”

“Coffee please, black, no sugar.”

“Coffee sir? Coffee ma’am?”

These are only one of the few lines you can hear from people everyday (at home, at work, and everywhere), especially in the morning.

Yes, it has been some kind of routine – when you wake up in the morning, you’ll automatically seek for a cup of this addicting infusion. Who wouldn’t want it anyway?

Isn’t it nice to smell and taste the aroma of a freshly brewed hot coffee? In fact, just the smell of it makes your day already complete, right?

No matter how it is brewed – pressured, boiled, or filtered – or no matter how you serve it – white, black, or sweetened – it is no doubt that coffee is considered as one of the best beverages in the world.

But aside from the taste and aroma of this wonderful blend, people also become more interested with it because of its health benefits. Hundreds of studies confirmed that coffee has some therapeutic ability – from helping to cope up with depression to lowering the risk of heart disease and cancer. But also, just like some of the many things in life, too much of it can also be harmful. It is important to listen to your body and know your limit, too.

Honestly speaking, I am a coffee-lover. I can consume at least 2-4 cups of coffee a day, depending on my mood and needs. Well, I know it’s not that much compared to how many cups do others consume, but that’s just me. I just love coffee. Like others, I consider it as one of my energy sources, too. I feel impaired when I don’t get even just a cup of it in a day.

How about you, do you love coffee, too? :)

When your past comes back to haunt you

Are you having a hard time sleeping at night? Do you always find yourself having a difficult time to concentrate with your tasks or decide for your future? Are you worried and afraid because no matter what you do, your past keeps on haunting you?

Almost everyone of us is being haunted by our past in one way or another. Well, certain experiences such as graduation, birthday celebrations, or what we call "happy memories" are things that we're glad to remember again. Ever thought about that necklace your mother gave to you on your 10th birthday? Or that picture of you and your bestfriend together in your highschool days? Oh...how nice it is to bring back old and yet beautiful memories.

However, there are also these things that we wish to never come back in our memory again. These are the "traumatizing events" that happened to us away back. Probably, you've experienced being cheated by someone you cared so much, or you've witnessed how your parents separated when you're a kid. I know, those bad memories are things you just want to bury deep into the ground. But sometimes, no matter how hard you try, these painful events just come back and start to follow you around.

Being haunted by your past experiences is inevitable. No matter how good or bad the memory is, there will be a moment that you'll remember them again. When that happens, don't panic though. You may be afraid or worried because reliving those memories feels like bringing back the pain too, but let me tell you this: your past is past. It happened, and there's no way you can change it. Yes, there are things to be learned, but there's no reason for you to linger with the bad thing at all. Bad things happen because there are things in life that God wants to teach us. But what He wants is for us to realize those good things behind those happenings and not to hold on to those bad things.

You know what happens when you keep on thinking about it? You can never go on with your life. You can never focus on your future. You will be imprisoned by that dark memory of yours forever.

Maybe you're afraid because you think that it will happen again. But I tell you, it's just all in your mind. Remember your past is your past. There's no way it could hurt you again, unless, of course, you allow it to bite you once more.

There are other more important things in your life that you should think of. Don't let your past control you. It can be tough, yes, to fight with your memory, but if you really want to go on and have a good future, you'll take courage to let them go.

Tomorrow Is Another Day

Do you ever feel like there's no more hope - that no matter what you do, things just don't get any better, in fact, they're just getting worse? Or do you feel sad and frustrated - as if everything around you is always wrong? Have you just experienced losing someone you cared so much or have been rejected by someone you really love?

It hurts, obviously.

Being hurt is one of the natural responses of our body when the things we want don't happen the way we wanted them to be. Yes, it's natural! Our body was made to feel different kinds of emotions, including pain and sadness. And there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's a good thing that your body is reacting to different situations of life. That just means that you're still alive and aware. What's better is you still have that chance to change your life and make it better. If you no longer feel anything at all or cease to feel anything, you're bound to be dead - a walking dead, that much worse.

I know that whatever you're going through right now is not simple. There's nothing easy when it comes to going through difficult situations. But believe me, it's not as worse as you think. In fact, whatever problems you have, may be a good help for you in the future. You just have to figure out what lessons it wants to teach you and then apply them to your life. Just don't dwell on the bad side of the problem. If you're hurt, cry it out, but don't linger on the pain and don't let the sadness overcome you.

I know how it feels because I have also been in a situation like yours. Well, we may not have experienced very the same dilemma, but as a human being, I've also been through tough situations where I almost gave up. But I never let my situation ate me up. I've thought about my life, my family, and the many opportunities out there that were made up for me, and that gave me hope.

If you'll only give yourself a chance, you'll see how amazing the world is. Whatever it is that you're currently struggling through, whether it's about that grade you wanted to achieve in school, that job you're longing to have, that dress you wanted to buy, that house you're dreaming to have, or that person you wanted to be with, don't lose heart. Always remember that as long as you live, there's always hope. Tomorrow is another day!
